Kolkata: After making its presence felt in the local body elections in the states like Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Assam, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) may field candidates in the forthcoming assembly elections in Punjab.

In wake of the soaring popularity of TMC and its supremo Mamata Banerjee, Kolkata based Sikh community members have requested the Chief Minister to field party candidates in the upcoming Assembly polls in Punjab.

Retired IPS and West Bengal Tourism Minister Rachpal Singh is striving hard to ensure that TMC manages to make an impact in Punjab.

The Sikh community members have also decided to felicitate the CM on November 13. Famous Sikh personalities in the country and abroad are expected to grace the occasion. Senior journalist and renowned writer Khuswant Singh is also likely to attend the function. However, Singh’s participation is yet not confirmed due to his poor health.

The Sikh community believes Banerjee has given due representation to it in the West Bengal cabinet by inducting Rachpal Singh as Tourism Minister. They claimed that granting Gurumukhi the status of second language in Sikh dominated districts, has been a praiseworthy move of Banerjee.
