Azamgarh: If the online cut-off list of UP Basic Education Board is to be believed, Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was recently hanged, is the topper of the merit list of part-time instructors.

In a telling laxity of officials in UP’s education department, the cut-off merit list is showing Afzal Guru as topper among the applicants who registered online for part-time instructors on contractual basis. The name of the candidate in the merit list is Afzal Guru while his father’s name is Laden. The applicant has mentioned Lahore city of Pakistan as his address. What is more surprising is the fact that the photo used for the online registration depicts Afzal Guru with long beard and a fiery noose around his neck.

Similar cases have come to light in which the candidates have used the names of politicians, Bollywood stars and they are among the toppers in the list.

Despite all the details that could easily prove the applicant to be fake, none of the officials of the education board have made any attempt to trace the person or remove the information from the website.

Going by the details filled by the applicant, he has secured 99.87 percentage. The applicant has got 599 marks out of 600 in his high school and 499 marks out of 500 in Class 12 examinations.

The shocking incident has clearly exposed the lackadaisical approach of the Samajwadi Party-led Akhilesh Yadav government towards the education system in the state.

When asked about this major goof-up, one of the education board officials Somaru Pradhan said, “We are unaware of any such discrepancy as of now. But will probe into the matter.”
