New Delhi: Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru had written a letter to his wife Tabassum before being taken to gallows. This was confirmed by Tihar Jail authorities who said that Afzal had written a letter in Urdu to his wife. They also divulged that the letter was dispatched by them but denied to confirm if the letter reached its destination.   

Afzal’s family demands for dead body

Meanwhile, Afzal’s wife has urged Sayed Ali Shah Geelani, leader of hard-line faction of separatist group Hurriyat, to help her bring back the dead body of her husband to the valley. The family has sought permission from the government to perform the last rites of Afzal Guru.

Prior to this, Afzal’s wife had urged the authorities to return all the belongings of her husband.

On the condition of not being named, a jail official said that Afzal, who was informed about his execution in the evening of February 8, expressed his desire to write a letter to his wife Tabassum.

The official further said that he wrote a letter in Urdu which was immediately posted to Afzal’s family living in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Guru’s family has denied having received any such letter so far.
