Harriette Thompson of Charlotte from North Carolina completed Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego in 7 hours, 24 minutes, 36 seconds. Whole city cheered for her during 7.30 hours running. After this astonishing achievement, Thompson became buzz of the city.

The journey of Thompson was painstaking. At the age when it became hard to walk she started running. Fitness experts are amazed of her stamina. Thompson said she used to walk for hours and never thought to be a runner before her 70's.

She did not begin running marathons until she was in her 70's. A member of her church approached her about being one of her sponsors in the marathon to raise money to fight leukaemia and lymphoma.

She battled a staph infection in one of her legs. It was tough for Thompson to take proper training as her husband was very ill. Despite her training woes, she nearly matched her finish time of 7 hours, 7 minutes, 42 seconds last year.

Thompson is also a classically trained pianist. She plays piano to keep her mind sound. Her life has been full of emotional trauma. Passion for cancer survivors and self experience drive her to participate in marathons. She enjoys raising money for cancer research.
