People, who were trying to book tickets online, had a horrifying time as the site went down on the first day of the scheme with a message on the website reading ‘service unavailable’.

The site also displays a message like ‘the system is currently busy’ and 'sorry for the inconvenience'.

The airline has announced the scheme for five days (August 27 to August 31) for travel during the period of August 27 to September 30. The sale of these tickets would be made only through the airline's website.

Air India was amalgamated with erstwhile Indian Airlines into one airline as ‘Air India’ on August 27, 2007.

On the occasion, the flag carrier launched 'Air India Offer' - a scheme offering tickets for Rs 100 apart from all applicable taxes to celebrate the 'Air India Day'.
