New Delhi:  Expressing concern over the project of setting up Uttar Pradesh All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), which has been in limbo for last four years, Samajwadi Party MPs on Thursday raked up the issue in the Lok Sabha.

SP MP Ramkishan demanded the adjournment of question hour to discuss the AIIMS project. Other SP MPs also raised their voice for the project. However, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar did not give permission for the discussion on the issue.

Later on, after end of the question hour, SP MPs again raised the issue which was outweighed by heated discussion on Bofors issue.

Dainik Jagran in its campaign ‘UP lao AIIMS’ (Bring AIIMS to UP) has reported that the Rs 823 crore project has got Union Health Ministry’s nod four years ago.

Union cabinet too gave its consent to set up AIIMS in Uttar Pradesh. But still the project is in cold storage due to non-cooperation between the Centre and state government.

If the project becomes a reality, around five thousand patients could get proper medical facilities at the right time. Besides, three lakh patients will get rid of expensive treatment of private hospitals.
