The AIPGMEE is eligibility-cum-ranking examination, which is conducted on national basis for admission in all-India 50 percent quota of MD/MS/Diploma seats in state government medical colleges. The exam was held for admission in colleges throughout the country, except for those located in Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh. The National Board of Examinations has been entrusted the responsibility of conducting this competitive entrance examination by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The AIPGMEE 2014 is prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to all-India 50 percent quota of MD/MS/Diploma Seats for the academic session 2014.

As the state governments of Haryana, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and University of Delhi shall not conduct an entrance examination of their own for admission to MD/MS/ PG Diploma courses in colleges under their control, they shall utilize the results of AIPGMEE 2014. Admission to MD/MS/ PG Diploma courses at institutes under Armed Forces Medical Services shall also be made on the basis of AIPGMEE 2014 scores.
