According to sources, the pilots have claimed that the proposed action will decrease their take-home total emolument by about 40 percent, as it has already been cut 25 percent in the last over two years.

Air India is operational only because of funds provided by the government. The management has reportedly taken the step to make the airline profitable and become able to survive on its own.

The airline has decided that pilots will now have to fly to get the emoluments they till now get irrespective of the number of hours spent in the cockpit.

As per sources, Air India's pilots union is furious at the management’s proposal. The Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) reportedly said the airline management's proposal just before the election is a mischief to create difficulties for the new government which is likely to privatize the national carrier.

The pilots have reacted strongly to this proposal claiming it could lead to industrial unrest during the ongoing summer peak season.
