Bhopal: Star-studded Air India (AI) got the better of Chhattisgarh 8-2, while Uttar Pradesh thrashed Kerala 15-1 and Chandigarh beat Rajasthan 17-2 at India's first national (men's) hockey championship here on Saturday.

Chhattisgarh's Dalbeer Singh scored the first goal in the 11th minute to take the lead but AI shot back when Len Aiyappa converted a penalty corner into a goal.

After the equaliser, AI's Vikram Pillay hit the board to extend the lead to 2-1 at the 21st minute.

However, Chhattisgarh bounced back and Dalbeer struck his second goal through a penalty stroke at 24th minute.

AI stormed back into the game and netted the ball at 26th, 32nd and 42nd minutes through Shivender Singh, Sameer Dad and Yuvaraj Walmiki, respectively.

At the half time, the AI was leading 5-2.

After the breather, the Chhattisgarh made some marvelous moves but failed to capitalise on those.

AI's Shivender and Len netted two penalty corners, while Birendra Lakha hit the net at 50th minute.
