New Delhi: Indian Davis Cup team on Friday got a new sponsor in Aircel, a telecom service provider, for the upcoming World Group play-off away tie against Japan.

India will lock horns with Japan in Tokyo from September 16 as the two Asian nations strive to re-enter the elite World Group.

India had lost to top seed and defending champions Serbia 1-4 in the first round of the 16-nation World Group, to be forced to go through play-offs yet again.

During the Serbia tie, SAIL was Indian team's sponsor.

Apart from the Davis Cup, Aircel will also sponsor the Fed Cup team for the next tie.

“Aircel's association with AITA is bound to enthuse tremendous energy to the Indian Davis Cup team,” Anil Khanna, secretary general, All India Tennis Association, said in a statement.

“It is our passion to associate and encourage sport at all levels and inspire the youth to actively participate and put India on the World Map,” said Gurdeep Singh, chief operating officer of Aircel.
