New Delhi: All India Tennis Association (AITA) has decided to watch the performances of all the Indian players on grass during Wimbledon with a view to select the surface and the venue for the next World Group Qualifying Davis Cup Tie to be held from September 16 to 18.

While Somdev Devvarman has said he is now more comfortable on grass than before, the other members of the Indian team -- Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna -- are traditionally more fond of grass surface for Davis Cup ties at home.

India has made memorable victories over more fancied teams on grass at home ties.

Even on hard courts of Chennai, India had made a fantastic come back from 0-2 down to beat Brazil 3-2 in the World Group qualifying tie in September 2010.

The final choice of the surface, however, will lie with the captain and the players.

An early decision will be needed to be taken since the Draw for the September tie will take place on July 12.

AITA is considering different venues depending on the final decision of the players regarding the choice of surface.

Home tie is always a great advantage and it will also give a chance to some of the other players like Karan Rastogi, Vishnu Vardhan, Sanam Singh, Yuki Bhambri and Karan Uday Singh to be part of the squad.

The eight nations who lost in the first round of the World Group are: India, Russia, Czech Republic, Romania, Chile, Belgium, Austria, Croatia.

These eight countries will play in the World Group qualifying against the winners of the zonal ties, which will be played from July 8 to 10.

Teams to contest in zonal ties: Israel vs Poland, Italy vs Slovenia, Nederland vs South Africa, Portugal vs Switzerland, Austria vs China PR, Japan vs Uzbekistan, Ecuador vs Canada, Uruguay vs Brazil.
