During his meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House, Rahane said that even though he was on Sri Lanka tour, he was moved by the plight of drought-hit farmers in Marathwada and wanted to donate this money for drought relief work.

After the meeting, Devendra Fadnavis wrote on his twitter account:

Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Rahane's gesture was inspiring for others and was a testimony of the fact that society has an emotional connect with the drought-hit people of Marathwada and other regions.

Fadnavis said that if other people especially able sections of the society emulate Rahane's example it would help the government to mitigate the drought situation at a faster rate.
