Ranchi: The Ajsu party on Thursday announced its candidate for the Hatia assembly by-poll scheduled on June 12 and appealed to all the ruling allies to support its nominee.
"We are fielding Naveen Jaiswal from the Hatia seat and appeal to all alliance partners to support him," Ajsu party president and deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Mahto told reporters after a party meeting here.
Ajsu is one of the alliance partners in the Arjun Munda-led BJP/JMM/JDU government in Jharkhand. Its announcement comes close on the heels of the five-member Ajsu legislature party helping JMM candidate Sanjeev Kumar win in the May 3 Rajya Sabha elections, which prevented BJP’s S S Ahluwalia from winning a third term.
On April 24, BJP’s Jharkhand unit president Dinesh Goswami had said the party would soon announce its candidate for the Hatia assembly by-poll.
Hatia is one of the 27 assembly constituencies across the country going for by-poll with the Election Commission deciding to issue notification on May 18.
The last date of filing nominations is scheduled on May 25 while the scrutiny will take place the next day and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is on May 28. The by-poll for Hatia is necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Gopal Sharan Nath Sahdeo in 2010.
