The Jain family was able to get an immediate bail and given a month to appeal to the High Court in this matter.

They were sentenced to one year in jail for the breach of Section 36 and six-month jail for the violation of Section 3 of the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act, 1995. Both the terms will run concurrently.

Jain, his wife Sawaran Lata, sons Akshit and Punit, and daughter Rohini were also fined Rs 1500 each by the court of additional chief judicial magistrate.

A case was filed in August 2007 against Jain under the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act, 1995 at Mehna in Moga.

The main illegality committed by Jain in this matter was selling farmland as a colony, which is a contravention of Punjab Urban Planning and Development Act, reports claim.
