The protesters also burnt effigies of Gandhi at different places in Punjab and the state's capital Chandigarh, said a spokesman of YAD, youth wing of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Reports of protest demonstrations by Youth Akali Dal activists have been received from Ludhiana, Moga, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala and Muktsar.

The protesters also accused Gandhi of ‘rubbing salt on wounds of victims of 1984 riots’.

Leading the protesters at Ludhiana, Youth Akali Dal senior vice-president Manpreet Singh Ayali said that Gandhi should name the people who were behind the riots besides giving an account of what action was taken against these men by Congress.

At Moga, the Akali youth activists under leadership of Baljinder Singh Brar took out protest march and staged dharna in Majestic chowk where they burnt an effigy of Gandhi.

Gandhi in a recent interview is understood to have admitted that some Congressmen were involved in 1984 riots.
