New Delhi: With the declaration of poll results in Uttar Pradesh, the image of Samajawadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has touched new heights whereas Congress’ trump cards Rahul Gandhi and sister Priyanka looking to resurrect the party’s fortunes in the state failed to leave an impact as the party received a severe drubbing.

Priyanka Gandhi who had promised UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to fetch all the ten seats in the constituency of Amethi and Rae Barely for the Congress failed to live up to the expectations as the party could only manage to win two seats.

Both brother and Sister have been trying to overcome the Akhilesh factor in Uttar Pradesh for the last eight months.

Akhilesh’s wife Dimple Yadav lost in by-polls of Ferozabad parliamentary seat, where Rahul Gandhi campaigned in favour of Party’s candidate Raj Babbar. As Babbar won the seat, Rahul’s magic was considered to have done the trick. Upset Akhilesh called the defeat as ‘unforgettable”.

Rubbishing the speculations of a hung assembly Akhilesh Yadav has made a thumping comeback after the 2007 assembly defeat. With intent to give rivals a befitting reply, Akhilesh hit the campaign trail with all his might, calling the shots he even distributed the tickets. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi was seen dependent on his lieutenants like Beni Prasad Verma giving him a free hand to distribute tickets in some constituencies.

Priyanka Gandhi, despite putting in all her efforts, couldn’t help Congress bag seats in Rae Barely and Amethi, a pocket borough of Gandhi family. It managed to win only two of the 10 Assembly seats.
