Lucknow: The new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has ordered reinstatement of the police zone system abolished by the Mayawati government. On his instructions, the process for re-establishing the zone system has been started.

According to the government sources, the process of deployment of the IG zone range and DIG zone range in the state will begin in the next 48 hours.

It is said, Akhilseh on Saturday had a discussion with the DGP and senior officials of the Home department in this regard. He was informed that the former Bahujan Samaj Party government had abolished the IG zone system in eight zones of the state in 2009. In addition, the Mayawati government had decided to deploy officials of the DIG level on posts of SP in Lucknow, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Meerut, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi and Moradabad districts.

The policemen in order to sort out their grievances were entitled only to visit the DGP headquarters which was not at all feasible.
Observing the problems faced by the policemen, the IPS Association requested the Chief Secretary to look into the matter who in return assured to take a decision after the completion of the polls.
