Lucknow: Justice Markandey Katju, Chairman of the Press Council of India (PCI), heaped praises on newly formed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Lashing out at the electronic media for criticizing the newly-elected Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, Katju advised him to learn the art of politics to keep pace with the ongoing development. While talking to reporters on Tuesday, Katju admitted that the UP Chief Minister should be taught ‘Chanakaya’s principles’.

A good ruler backs on good advisors

Katju advised Akhilesh that a king cannot rule alone. He needs a good advisor.  Akbar’s regime is termed as a golden era because he had good advisors. He also advised Akhilesh to read Mahabharata’s ‘Shantipaath’ where the Bhishma Pitamah addressed Yudhishthir on politics and Machiavelli’s views on politics.

Irresponsible Electronic media

Jutice Katju criticized electronic media for being irresponsible. He said “TV channels behaved “irresponsibly” when they declared that the Samajwadi government in UP would lead to “goonda raj” even before the government had been sworn in. The Government should be given some time. Akhilesh is  young and holds modern views. He should not be de-moralized in his endeavour instead should be given time to perform and bring about some change. Let time pass and if nothing happens then you can criticize him as much as you want to.”

PCI to institute Journalism excellence awards

He also informed that the PCI would soon institute awards for excellence in journalism for journalists from ferent fields. Seven such journalists will be awarded. A committee has been formed in this regard. The special jury will select a journalist for the award.
