Etah(UP): Promising to take the state on the path of development, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said that Uttar Pradesh would be counted among the developed states of the country within five years from now.

Addressing a public meeting in Aliganj in Etah, Yadav asserted that "had the previous government not wasted funds on memorials, statues and parks, the situation in the state would
not have been so bad".

Blaming the previous regime for all the problems in the state, including those of power and water, the chief minister promised to improve the situation so that the state would be counted among the developed states in five years time.

On reservation, Yadav said that "while it was fine in areas like education and other facilities, quota in promotions after appointment was not right".
