The father of one of the cousin sisters, who were allegedly gang-raped and killed in Katra Sadatganj village in the district on May 27, had called for transferring the case to the agency alleging that the role of police was "suspicious".

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also visited the family of the two Dalit sisters on Saturday and demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. He also emphasized that delivering justice is important and not just launching a probe.

Earlier, former UP chief minister Mayawati had also demanded the CBI probe saying ‘jungle raj’ is prevalent in Uttar Pradesh under the Samajwadi Party regime.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has sent a report to the Union Home Ministry on the gang-rape case saying that some arrests have been made and all the guilty in the case will be punished.
