Recently conferred with the title of ‘King of Bollywood’ by a Bangalore-based university, Akshay was at his candid best as he spoke about his new movie Entertainment and on several other topics during an exclusive interview with Jagran Post.

The actor on Thursday paid a visit to the Dainik Jagran’s Noida office to promote his upcoming comedy flick Entertainment releasing on Friday.

When asked if he truly believes it is the right time for him to be called as the real ‘king of Bollywood’, Akshay said, “No, I don’t think so. There are many more experienced actors who have earned so much respect through their work in the industry.”

“For me, Amitabh Bachchan sir is the undoubted ‘king of Bollywood’,” said the multitalented actor.

While speaking about his latest comedy movie – Entertainment, Akshay said, “I have done lots of comedy movies but this (Entertainment) is the most hilarious of all and I am sure the viewers would agree with it after watching this movie”.

Akshay stressed that it was after around 18 years that a Bollywood movie had an animal in the lead role, adding these kinds of movies should be encouraged.

The ‘Rowdy Rathore’ actor revealed that the major reason behind the lack of animal-based movies in the Bollywood is that producing a good movie with animals requires lot of patience and hard work.

“Entertainment is a different kind of film as it is based on an animal. Such animal-based movies have not been made in our industry for the past 18 years,” Akshay said.

“A major reason behind Bollywood directors and producers not trying their hands in animal-based movies is that it requires lot of patience to make a movie with an animal in the lead role,” he added.

“One needs to work according to the animal’s mood during the shoot and that requires patience and hard work. It is the same case with little babies” he further said.

It is a common observation that generally movies have some stories or an inspiration behind them – something that is interesting and unusual, and Entertainment was no different from that.

Akshay revealed that the inspiration behind Entertainment was the story of a Mumbai based Parsi who had named all his property in the name of his pet dog before dying.

Well-acknowledged in the industry for his negative roles, south Indian actor Prakash Raj will also be seen in the slapstick comedy flick – Entertainment.

And Akshay is of the opinion that Prakash is the surprise package of the movie, especially considering how effortlessly he has shifted gears from trademark negative roles to the rib-tickling comedy genre.

“Prakash Raj surprised me by his adeptness in doing comic roles. He has done a fantastic job in the movie,” Akshay said.

When asked who his favourite co-star in the comedy genre is, Akshay replied, “It is difficult to say who is my favourite since every time you work with new people, they come up with a certain surprise element and most of the times it is for the good. There is no such favourite.”

“New people in the industry generally come up with innovative ideas and it is fun to work with them. For example, the directors of our movie Entertainment – Sajid Samji and Farhad Samji are both new but they have creative ideas and their own style of work,” he added.

On a question that why he was only doing commercial movies these days, Akshay said, “As an actor I do whatever is in demand. Art movies are not appreciated much here in our country by the public and that is why more and more family entertainers and commercial movies are being made.”

“I personally liked my movie - 8 x 10 Tasveer as it was an art-based flick but it flopped miserably and did not get much appreciation from the public. I can’t do much about it,” he said.

Akshay also said that he wanted to do more negative roles in the future but no concrete offer has been made to him yet.

Entertainment also stars south Indian actress Tamannaah Bhatia and is directed by Sajid Samji and Farhad Samji, who are renowned writers in the tinsel town but would be making their directorial debut.

Produced by Ramesh S Taurani of Tips Industries Ltd, the movie also boasts of established Bollywood actors like Mithun Chakraborty, comedian Johnny Lever and Sonu Sood.
