Thiruvantpuram: The Kerala government has planned to raise Rs 1,512 crore as revenue by charging cess on tobacco products, alcohol, vehicles and plastic bags.

While presenting the budget for the year 2012-2013 the Finance Minister of Congress led UDF government KM Mani on Monday also announced increasing the retirement age of government employees to 56 from 55.

Meanwhile, the Opposition members took umbrage at the news being circulated in various newspapers of the state prior to the announcement of the Budget and raised slogans while moving into the Well of the House.

The Opposition alleged the government of compromising with the secrecy of the budget.

Speaker G Karthikeyan has demanded a probe into the matter.
