Jakarta: All 18 people on board a plane that crashed in a remote area of Indonesia's Sumatra Island were found dead on Saturday, rescue officials said.

"Two teams were lowered to the crash site and they have confirmed that all 18 people on the plane have died," national search and rescue agency operations head Sunarbowo Sandi said on live television.

Hopes of finding survivors from Thursday's crash had been raised when the mother of one of the passengers said her daughter had phoned her and a door on the aircraft was seen to have been opened after the plane came down.
