Allahabad: In wake of the recent bomb blast at Delhi High Court, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday sought a status report about the security of the districts courts in the state from the state government.

The BSP government has been asked to file its reply within three weeks.

A private organisation Yugandhara Rural Development and Public-service Institution had filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court citing that the judiciary may be on the target of the terror groups and therefore the security apparatus of district courts must be upgraded.

In the petition filed on September 12 after the Delhi blast, the security of the district courts has come under scanner.

A division bench of Chief Justice SR Alam and Justice Krishna began the hearing on Wednesday. Senior Advocate Umesh Narayan Sharma who was arguing for the petitioner said that even after serial blast in the court premises of Varanasi, Faisabad, Lucknow in 2007, which left more than a dozen dead and many injured, the security system in the courts remains to be in a pitiable condition.

The petitioner has appealed the court to ask the authorities to ensure similar security arrangements in district courts as that in the High Court.
