Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court issued a notice to Baba Ramdev, patron of magazine Yog Sandesh and Acharya Balkrishna (Editor) asking them to file their reply within three weeks for derogatory remarks made against emperor Ashoka and his descendants in a journal published by the yoga guru.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice FI Rebello and Justice Vikram Nath passed the order on a PIL filed by Buddhist organisations -- Buddha Commune (International), Lord Buddha Welfare Society and others.

The bench after issuing notice has also asked the yoga guru to file \their replies within three weeks.

The PIL alleged that in the May issue of the magazine, Yog Sandhesh, defamatory references such as “cowards” and “selfish” were used in the article for the descendants of Emperor Ashok and Buddhist monks. This, according to petitioners, has hurt the sentiments of the followers of Buddhism.

The petition was filed by members of the Maurya, Kushwaha and Buddhist communities on June 29 in the Allahabad High Court.

The petitioners have sought an apology from Ramdev and his associates.
