Patna: Medical services at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) came to a halt on Friday after the junior doctors of the hospital abstained from work to protest attack on them by relatives of a patient who died in the hospital.

40-year-old Faiza Khatoon of Gopalganj district was admitted to the emergency ward of the PMCH in the wee hours of Friday. In spite of medical assistance her condition deteriorated and she died. Khatoon’s relaitves got angry alleging negligence on the part of the junior doctors and thrashed them with rods and sticks.

Later, demanding arrest of the culprits, junior doctors went on a strike crippling medical services in the hospital.

However, the principal secretary of the state Health department Amarjeet Singh terming the strike by the junior doctors as ‘illegal’ assured the family members of stern action against those involved in this unfortunate incident.
