Udhampur: Nine persons including eight Amarnath pilgrims were injured in a head-on clash of two vehicles in the wee hours on Tuesday at Rambal in Udhampur.

The injured persons including the driver have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. The police took both the vehicles into possession and have initiated an inquiry into the mishap.

According to reports, the pilgrims were going from Baltal to Katra when the Tata Sumo carrying them collided with a Tata Winger coming from opposite direction near the Kalimata temple in Rambal around 4.30 am. The impact of the accident was so high that it took half-an-hour of efforts to rescue the injured.

The doctors and the paramedical staff were informed beforehand to start immediate treatment.
Rajkumar Sharma, SHO Rambal reached the site while Jagjit kumar, DIG, Udhampur Reasi Range and Superintendent of Police Shakeel Ahmed Beg reached the hospital to enquire about the well being of the injured.

The accident probably occurred due to the driver feeling sleepy while driving, said the police.
