Nearly six out of 10 Americans are opposed to the US launching missile strike against Syria, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll. Democrats and Republicans are equally opposed to war against Syria.

Broad opposition in the new poll contrasts with a December Post-ABC poll that found 59 percent against a missile strike in Syria, with only 36 percent supported US military involvement.

Further, providing military aide to the opposition groups in Syria has even less support. Seventy percent respondents say they oppose arming the rebels, while only 27 percent support such an action.

Last week, a NBC Poll had reported that 42 percent of the Americans supported a military action. The Washington Post-ABC poll was conducted over phone between August 28-September 1.
