In a detailed statement, read out in the Lok Sabha amid din created by Congress members, Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur said the food park's promoter company had expressed its inability to pursue the project in the absence of natural gas, whose allocation was denied by the previous government in December 2012.

The issue pertains to cancellation of proposed Shaktiman Mega Food Park Pvt Ltd in Amethi. The House saw ruckus after Speaker Sumitra Mahajan allowed the Minister to make a statement on the matter, with Congress members protesting against the decision and even questioning the Chair's partiality.

Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur defends:

Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur claimed that in view of inordinate delay by the promoter company in meeting the "pre conditions for final approval, in-principle approval accorded to the project by the Ministry was cancelled". The decision of the cancellation was conveyed to the promoter company on July 11, 2014, she added. The issue of inordinate delay was considered by an inter-ministerial approval committee on June 30, 2014 and then the in-principle nod was cancelled.

She said that during a review meeting of the project's progress in June last year, the promoter company's representative had informed that without supply of gas at administered price, it would not "consider the project to be viable".

Lok Sabha candidate from Amethi HRD Minister Smriti Irani fires salvo at Rahul:

Rahul Gandhi and Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday locked horns over farmer's issues and Food Park in Amethi. Irani was in Rahul Gandhi's constituency Amethi to meet farmers affected by untimely rains, she said that Gandhi is following her footsteps, the people might see him too in Amethi. She attacked Gandhi for not being there to support the grieved farmers in the region.

Irani also went on to say that three generations of Congress made promises and dreams to people of Amethi but those promises can only be fulfilled by Modi government.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh assures to look into the issue:

Home Minister said the UPA government had given in-principle approval for the Mega Food Park in Amethi in 2010.  Steering clear of the delay under UPA’s watch, he assured Mr. Gandhi that the issue would be looked into, adding that the ruling party cannot develop the nation on its own, government seeks positive support from Opposition.

Congress big gun Abhishek Singhvi  attacks Modi government:

Hitting back, Congress on Friday alleged that the Narendra Modi government was playing politics of vendetta against Rahul Gandhi over a mega food park project in his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
