Sushant had committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his house in Sarojini Nagar in south Delhi last week.

The deceased is the son of Jagdish Kumar, a joint secretary-level official in the Rajya Sabha secretariat. While the exact cause of his taking the extreme step is still not known, it is being reported that he was "weak" in studies and was very depressed with his academic performance.

Sushant reportedly locked himself in a room and did not take his breakfast on the fateful day while his parents were away. When his sister called him for lunch there was no response. “She knocked at the door, but there was no answer. When he didn’t respond, she informed her parents and neighbours,” a senior police officer said.

Sushant left behind a suicide note in which he said that he was ashamed of not being a good son, a good brother, and a good friend. “It is unclear why he took the extreme step. He wrote he was a failure and did not wish to live,” a senior police officer said.
