Wellington: South Africa batsman Hashim Amla is unlikely to take any further part in the third cricket Test against New Zealand after spending a night in hospital and having exploratory surgery on an injury to his groin.
Amla was struck by a delivery from Chris Martin during his innings of 63 on the opening day of the Test on Friday at the Basin Reserve.
He batted on but was later taken to Wellington Hospital where he was treated for "blunt trauma," South Africa team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee said.
In a statement on Friday Moosajee said Amla "spent the night in hospital and was discharged this morning. The surgeon is satisfied with the outcome and expects Hahim to make a full recovery."
