Mumbai: The linking of Puducherry Lt Governor Iqbal Singh with Bihar Congress leader Amlendu Pandey is not a mere coincidence. Sources revealed that when Sardar Iqbal Singh was in-charge of Bihar then Pandey also earned a lot of favour from him in the state.

Pandey, who is alleged to have helped Hasan Ali in obtaining passports, played the role of a key spokesman and contested elections in Bihar.

Over his alleged links with tax evader Hasan Ali, Congress party members in Bihar were quite embarrassed and refused to comment as they are scared to get involved in the black money probe.

According to Congress sources, Sardar Iqbal Singh played a key role in Bihar from 2003 to 2009.

First, he became the Secretary in-charge and then Secretary when Sadanand Singh became the state party chief. It was then that Amlendu Pandey also became the party spokesman.

During Singh’s tenure, it was also assumed by other party members that he will also look after the work related to Delhi. However, Anil Kumar Sharma disagreed on the issue that Amlendu be assigned the role of party spokesman during his tenure from 2008 to 2010.

Meanwhile, Amlendu lost the Legislative Council elections from Sitamadhi district.

According to sources, Amlendu, who began his career in 1985, carved out a niche for himself in the party through his contacts.
