Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced to give employment to the inconsolable family members of the victims of the fire tragedy at AMRI Hospital on Friday.

The State Cabinet on Monday has stamped its approval to the decision taken by the state Chief Minister. The government has also decided to honour 56 residents who fought with the hellfire while rescuing the patients entrapped in the blaze.

"Money is no compensation for the life lost. But there are victims' families who have lost the only earning member, so the government has decided to pay Rs 3 lakh compensation and give a job to the family of each victim," Mamata said.

The Central government has already announced the compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of each victim and Rs 1 lakh to the injured. The AMRI Hospital staff who lost their lives and are critically injured while rescuing the entrapped patients will also be compensated, she added.
