Amritsar: Punjab Police's Special Operation Cell on Saturday arrested two smugglers and seized 10kg of heroin from their possession worth Rs 100 crore. Police also seized .30 bore pistol, a magazine and five live cartridges from them.

Both the accused has been identified as - Avtar Singh and Sarwan Singh.

Earlier on Friday, drug smuggler Sukhbir Singh was arrested and 5kg of heroin along with Rs 12 lakh in cash was seized from his possession.

According to DIG Surendra Singh Siddhu, Saturday’s arrest was made on the tip-off of Sukhbir Singh. He added that the police intercepted Sukhbir Singh, who managed to escape from Amritsar jail on January 17, 2012, when he was on his way to deliver the consignment.

He said that Avtar Singh and Sarwan Singh were apprehended on a tip-off from a place near village Muradpur on Fatehgarh-Churian road on the outskirts of Amritsar city where the duo were allegedly waiting for a party to deliver a consignment of heroin. Sukhbir is a resident of Sarai Amanat Khan village in Tarn Taran district.

A case under various sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act has been registered against them.
