Hyderabad: Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma on Saturday laid the foundation stone of National Institute of Design (NID) in Hyderabad.

NID, which is coming up on the campus of University of Hyderabad, is expected to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses from 2015-16.

This will be the third NID in the country. The first such institute was established at Ahmedabad in 1961.

Sharma on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the second NID in Haryana's Kurukshetra district. Sharma said two more NIDs were planned at Jorhat in Assam and Bhopal to cater to the students of the respective regions.

Human Resource Development Minister MM Pallam Raju and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy were among those who attended the ceremony.
