New Delhi: Slamming the Central government for its action against Anna Hazare and his supporters, the NDA MPs from Bihar have termed the crackdown as a reminder of the ‘Emergency’ days.

Bihar BJP president and personal doctor of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan during the 1974 movement, Dr CP Thakur said, “The prevailing situation brings alive the memories of the Emergency days.”

Janata Dal (United) MPs Monazir Hassan, Dinesh Chandra Yadav and Ashmegh Devi also opined that the manner in which Anna Hazare was arrested on Tuesday morning shows that the government took decisions in haste and anxiety.

Suspended JD-U MPs Upendra Kushwaha and Sushil Kumar Singh said, “Anna must not be prevented from carrying out his fast. This will in fact provide thrust to the movement. Everyone has a right to voice his opinions.”

While the NDA leaders termed the government’s action as an undemocratic one, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav seemed to be on the government’s side.

Lalu said, “Why is Anna in such a hurry on the Lokpal issue? The Parliamentary Standing Committee is looking into the matter. He was called for talks and the process is still on.”

On being asked by the reporters whether Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was behind Anna’s movement, he replied, “Anna does not have any organization of his own. Some or the other organization is backing his movement.”

However, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh of the RJD hailed Anna’s arrest as unconstitutional and asked for his urgent release.
