New Delhi: Anna Hazare will be meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday to explain the stand of the Civil Society on the issue of the Lokpal Bill ahead of an all-party meeting on it on Sunday.

Hazare has been given appointment at 4 pm on Saturday, sources at Gandhi's residence said.

Hazare has already said he will try to persuade Gandhi to bring the office of the Prime Minister under the purview of the Lokpal Bill.

AICC had given indications on Thursday that a meeting between Gandhi and Hazare was expected soon despite differences between the party and the Civil Society on the issue of the bill.

Reaching out to political parties ahead of the all-party meeting, the Anna Hazare team has been meeting leaders of all hues. The Civil Society activists had a meeting with BJP veteran L K Advani on Friday morning.

BJP assured us of a strong Lokpal: Anna

Meanwhile, Gandhian Anna Hazare, who along with other members of the civil society met 11 leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Friday, said the party has assured them all support for a strong Lokpal bill.

“We met senior BJP leaders like LK Advani, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and discussed on how to make the Lokpal bill stronger,” Anna Hazare told reporters after the meeting.

“It was felt that a strong Lokpal bill needs more discussion. The talks were good and I am thankful to them,” he added.  Team Anna has been meeting leaders of various political parties to build a consensus on the bill drafted by the civil society.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Eleven leaders of the BJP met the Civil Society representatives for a good one-and-a-half hours. We listened to them and saw their presentation. We also sought some clarifications. We assured them of a strong Lokpal bill.”

Our party will have a meeting and then discuss about this, he added.
