Mumbai: Social activist Anna Hazare topped a public poll ‘Mumbai ka hero kaun’ conducted by India Against Corruption on the occasion of the 63rd Republic Day in Mumbai.  Hazare who was adjudged as the most popular man was miles ahead of political stalwarts of Maharashtra.

The organizers had prepared a questionnaire for the people who had come to visit the Gateway of India. The survey along with Anna Hazare had the names of important political leaders of the country like Bal Thackeray, Raj Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Rahul Gandhi and veteran BJP leader LK Advani. Out of these names the tourists had to choose their favourite leader by voting for them.

The poll saw a participation of 5,499 respondents of which 77 percent (4241) casted their vote in favour of Anna as the ‘Mumbai Ka hero’.  Rahul Gandhi was second in the list and could only manage to bag 7 percent of the votes. Prominent Maharashtrian leaders like Bal Thackeray, Sharad Pawar and Raj Thackeray failed to come anywhere close to Anna Hazare.  Raj Thackeray was third in the survey and managed a meager 6 percent votes in his favour. Whereas Bal Thackeray got only 3 percent of the votes with Pawar and Advani managing 1 percent each.
