New Delhi: The formal announcement for the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh can be made anytime, as the Election Commission is reportedly willing to conduct the state elections in February next year.

Though the announcement of class 10 and 12 board exams in March may have diverted the poll fever, the Election Commission seems well-prepared for the task.

Notably, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) SY Qureshi during his Goa visit on Friday indicated that the elections in five states may be conducted together. He, however, said there is no final confirmation on the exact dates.

The five states that will go to polls next year include Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.

Meanwhile, the EC officials said they have completed their visit of all the five poll bound states.

The officials also added that they are prepared on their part for the massive poll exercise but are waiting for the right time to declare the schedule.
