Ranchi: Implementing the orders of the Jharkhand High Court, the state government on Tuesday swung into action and started operation to remove encroachments in Ranchi.

People took to street protesting anti-encroachment drive. The protestors pelted stones and fired at enforcement team and police. The police used lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the crowd. As the crowd was unyielding the police had to resort to firing which claimed life of a person and left dozens wounded.

Union Minister, Subodh Kant Sahay who was spearheading the protests, was also wounded in the clash. The Congress has announced to stage demonstration and called for a Ranchi bandh on Thursday.

The protestors vociferously demanded the government first should rehabilitate before removing encroachment. Police arrested the Minister and six others as well as sent them to jail at Jagganathpur camp.

Alleging the government for spreading violence in the state, Sahay said, “There was a bid to murder him in the name of police action. I will raise the matter in the Cabinet meeting in Delhi on Wednesday.”
