Kochi: Union Defence Minister A K Antony on Friday assured Kerala that the central government would extend all help to the state for various development projects.

"The Central government will extend all help to the Kerala government for execution of various projects," he said after declaring open the Rs 37.5 crore Venduruthy Vikrant bridge near the Naval base here.

The Kerala government, Navy and Cochin Port Trust have shared the cost of the bridge, with the Navy contributing Rs 12.5 crore.
The bridge provides a new link between Ernakulam and Wellington Island.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who was also present at the inauguration, complimented the Navy, Cochin Shipyard Ltd and Cochin Port for coming together for the project.

Minister of state for Food and Consumer Affairs K V Thomas and state Excise minister K Babu were among those who spoke at the event.
