New Delhi: After facing poll debacle in the recently concluded state assembly elections, the Congress is now more concerned about 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Even though the party has considerably not performed well in the election, it, somehow managed to form the government in the hill state. Now the party has to find out the reasons behind the assembly poll drubbing.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday also reviewed the party’s poor performance in politically important state, Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha. Interestingly, UP poll was fought under the leadership of Rahul.

Along with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Defence Minister AK Antony-led review committee has been entrusted with the task of finding out the reasons behind the UP poll debacle. According to sources, Antony-led committee on Sunday will meet the UP Congress leaders to know the reasons for the defeat of party candidates.

This committee will finally submit its report to party president Sonia Gandhi by the end of this month. Sonia is highly concerned about the party’s performance in the 2014 general elections. The Congress high command is of the view that if the party’s present performance is not improved considerably, it would be difficult for the grand old party to make a comeback in the 2014 Lok Sabha poll.

Meanwhile, Antony-led committee has already held several rounds of meetings with Captain Amarinder Singh, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and several other party leaders to discuss the party’s poor show in Punjab polls.

The committee has also held talks with Congress general secretary and Uttarakhand party in-charge Chaudhary Virendra Singh. The committee is likely to hold similar kind of meetings with party leaders in Goa.
