The Governor has not asked Reddy to be the caretaker Chief Minister, Raj Bhavan sources said, without going into the details.

Reddy had submitted his resignation to the Governor on Wednesday to protest the division of Andhra Pradesh and the way the Telangana Bill was carried out in Lok Sabha.

The Bill to carve out Telangana, the 29th state, by splitting Andhra Pradesh was on Tuesday passed by the Lok Sabha with Congress and BJP coming together on the issue, amidst din, chaos and an unprecedented black out of television coverage.

A number of ruling Congress MLAs from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema have announced resignation from their posts and also from the party over the issue of division.

Analysts feel it would be a tough proposition for the ruling Congress to find a successor to Reddy in view of sharp polarization along regional lines.
