New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Sunday issued contempt notice to the Railway authorities in the parcel porter employees’ regularization case.

The petition filed by employees had requested for contempt of court proceedings against the Railway officials and demanded immediate action upon the SC order made on November 17, 2009, in context of regularising of 98 parcel porter.

A two member bench of Justice Altamash Kabir and Justice Sireek Joseph issued the contempt notice to the railway officials.

The officials, who have been served the notice include General Manager of North East Railway Harish Chandra Joshi, Chief Commercial Manager BL Joshi, Divisional Railway Manager BK Agarwal and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Vijay Kumar and Deputy Chief Personal Officer (recruitment) Vishnu Kashyap. All these railway officials are presently posted at Allahabad.

Supreme Court has also summoned GM Harish Chandra Joshi to be present in the next hearing, which is scheduled for August 2.

Earlier, parcel porter employees lawyer DK Garg had filed a contempt of court plea against the railways authorities accusing them of not complying with the Apex Court orders.

It may be noted that Railway instead of regularising the petitioners in North Central Zone, published an advertisement for the parcel handling contracts on September 25, 2010. On January 26, 2010 Railways had also invited 508 applications for the post of parcel porters and sweepers.
