Chandigarh: ‘Apna Ghar’ located in Rohtak was started for providing shelter to helpless women and children but after the surfacing of the scandal, the probe report prepared by the two jurists- Anil Malhotra and Sudipti Sharma on the order of Punjab and Haryana High Court was not only fearful but shameful too.

According to the committee’s report, the innocent inmates including minors were being subjected to sexual abuse, naked parade, sexual assault, selling kids and pornography.
While submitting the report to the High Court, the committee has demanded a CBI probe into the matter rather than handing over the case to Haryana Police.

The probe committee was told that young girls and children were being sexually harassed. They were forced to intake narcotics before being subjected to sexual torture. Usually they were given alcohol added in soft drinks to get them mentally prepared for these activates.

Even mere five to ten years old children were being forced to perform oral sex. It has also been said that innocent inmates were presented before affluent people for their entertainment. The newly born babies of the inmates were sold. The girls were forced to bare their clothes for many days on their small mistakes and pornography was being done during the period.

The lawyers have said in their report that the girls were being given white intoxicants in the name of toothpowder which was used for their sexual abuse. And when the girl gets pregnant they were forced for abortion. Even one girl was found HIV positive in the shelter home.

Knowingly, a team of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had raided the Apna Ghar shelter home in May in which the issue of sexual assaulting of girls came to light. Apna Ghar was being run by an NGO led by Jaswant Devi who was later taken into custody with her colleagues and relatives after finding her involvement.
