Born to a Punjabi father and Bengali mother, Arijit had a very playful childhood in Jiaganj, Murshidabad (West Bengal) where he was born. Arijit was exposed to the fine nuances of music from a very early age, his maternal grandmother being a vocalist and maternal aunt a trained professional in Indian classical music. His maternal uncle is a renowned tabla player too.

Arijit was first seen in the reality show ‘Fame Gurukul’ on SONY TV in the year 2005 at the age of 18. Later, he participated in another singing show ‘10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil’. His professional musical journey began when he became an assistant music programmer to stalwarts like Pritam Chakraborty, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar, and Mithoon. Subsequently, he built his own recording setup as well.

Arijit made his debut in Bollywood as a singer in the year 2009 with the song "Phir Mohabbat" for the film "Murder 2" (2011). His first notable achievement was when he fetched the Mirchi Music Award for Upcoming Male Playback Singer for the song "Duaa" from the 2012 movie Shanghai. He was also nominated in the same category for another song "Phir Le Aya Dil" from the movie Barfi.

Arijit Singh rose to prominence after the release of Aashiqui 2 (2013). His collaboration with Jeet Ganguly and Mithoon for the album touched many hearts.  ‘Tum hi ho’, a romantic track from the movie paved the way for Arijit to win the first Filmfare award of his career. After this win there was no looking back. Arijit Singh became a household name and his songs have topped the chartbusters. From Phir Mohabbat to Tukur Tukur to Soch na Sake, Arijit Singh is one of the favourite singers of the music industry.

A simple looking boy who started his career from a small town of West Bengal has become an inspiration and idol for many budding singers. The stature of this singer can be gauged from the fact that within a short span of time he has won almost every prestigious music award which include BIG Star Entertainment Awards, Filmfare Awards, Filmfare Awards East,  Filmfare Awards South,   Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer – Telugu,  Global Indian Music Academy Awards, Guild Awards, International Indian Film Academy Awards, Mirchi Music Awards, Mirchi Music Awards Bangla, Screen Awards South, Indian International Movie Awards, Stardust Awards, Times of India Film Awards, and Zee Cine Awards.


He enjoys fan following not only from outside of the industry but from within the industry as well. Due to his sensual, mellifluous style, he is lovingly called the King of Romance by his fans and industry friends. His down to earth demeanour endears him to everyone he interacts with. Here’s wishing that Arijit keeps on entertaining the masses and winning even more accolades.
