Newtown Square: Arjun Atwal made a disappointing start at the AT & T National on the PGA Tour here with a seven-over 77 that has jeopardised his chance of making a cut.

Starting on the tenth, Atwal bogeyed the 11th and 14th before finding his first birdie, the only one on the opening day, on 16th.

On the second stretch he went through a nightmare with bogeys on first, fourth, seventh and eighth and a double bogey on third for a 41, which put him in tied 112th position.

Australia's Adam Scot shot a four-under 66 to share the first round lead with Hunter Haas.

Only 28 of the 120 players went under par on a course that many said was tougher than Congressional for the US Open last fortnight.
