Srinagar: Foiling the bid of terror groups to disturb the holy Amarnath Yatra, security forces on Thursday recovered a powerful IED from Shaitani Nala located at Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. After the discovery of the terror plot, the security apparatus have been tightened to foil any further attempt of the terror groups to create any kind of unpleasant incident in future.

According to  BN Ramesh, IG (operations), CRPF, security personnel who were camping near the drain spotted a green colored box  close to Shaitani Nala located in the vicinity of Jawahar Tunnel. Subsequently, it was found that the box was an IED planted there with a motive to disturb the holy Yatra. It was also found that the box contained 500 gm RDX and other explosive materials. Later, bomb disposal squad was called to defuse the IED. Ramesh further added that terrorists are desperate to see the increasing number of tourists in the valley and they want to make a major strike.

Interestingly, Jawahar tunnel connects Jammu with Kashmir Valley which is located on Jammu –Srinagar National Highway. Northern portion of the tunnel which is 2.5 kilometer long falls into Kulgam district while its Southern portion comes under Ramban in Jammu .
