"This is a gift to the people of Arunachal Pradesh from a responsive government," sources quoted Tuki as having said after he signed the Bill on Monday on his first day in office following Congress's re-election in the state.
Passage of the Lokayukta Act was a commitment made in Congress's election manifesto this year, official sources pointed out on Tuesday.
Lokayukta is a quasi-judicial body which would act as a watchdog to pinpoint wrongdoings of the administration, look into complaints of victims of corruption and suggest measures to improve the efficiency of the government.

Assembly elections were held in Arunachal Pradesh, the eastern-most frontier state along with the Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress, which has traditional stronghold in the state, emerged victorious in the state after the counting of votes on May 16.
