The media fraternity under the aegis of Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) has closed down publication of all Itanagar-based newspaper indefinitely since February 14 fearing confrontation between media personnel and Students’ Union Movement of Arunachal (SUMA) who has constantly been dictating the media on its functioning.
A two-member committee, comprising Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Habung Lampung and District Information and Public Relation Officer Keter Bagra as the member secretary, has been activated at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Itanagar, an official communique said.
The cell would facilitate interface between the administration and media as well as public, where media personnel, representatives of publishing houses as well as citizens and organizations can directly place their grievances, information, representations for attention, the communique said.
Meanwhile, the capital complex administration appealed to all concerned to place their grievances through democratic means and respect one another’s freedom of expression as enshrined in the Constitution of India keeping in view that freedom of expression is relative to responsibility, the communique added.
